1917 – Russian Emperor issued the order, according to which was set up Polytechnic Institute in Tbilisi, the first Higher Educational Institution in Caucasian region.
1922 – Was founded as a polytechnic faculty of Tbilisi State University.
1928 – The Departments of the polytechnic faculty merged into an independent Institute and named Georgian Polytechnic Institute (GPI).
In the 70’s – The Institute consisted of 15 full-time and 13 part-time faculties.
1990 – Georgian Polytechnic Institute was granted the university status and named as the Georgian Technical University.
1995 – Due to reforms and restructuring of curriculum, GTU gradually began installation of new training standards introducing Credit System –120 of the UK credits.
2001 – GTU became a full member of the European University Association – EUA.
2005 – GTU joined Bologna process and introduced 60 ECTS credits.
2005 – Due to the reorganizations conducted at GTU, 8 Faculties were set up.
2007 – GTU was awarded accreditation by the National Center for Educational Accreditation.
The mission of Georgian Technical University is to create an academic environment that will enable the individual to be highly qualified , to become an independent person as a full member of free and democratic world; To facilitate public and academic self-development and self-realization of each member of the university, which is a necessary precondition for the existence of a free, democratic society.
The activities of the university are based on the principles of unity, equality and transparency of autonomy, academic freedom, learning, teaching and research, internationalization of teaching and research processes, based on which it will be possible to pass not only passive international experience but also equal participation in international scientific achievements.

Papers and steps required to obtain university admission in Georgia:

•A copy of the identification pages of your passport.
•A copy of the passport, notarized and translated.
•A copy of the high school diploma, the transcript.
•IELTS certificate of English language proficiency.
•Medical certificate.
•Notarizing all your papers and certificates at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Georgian Embassy after their translation.
•Entering the university’s website after selecting the university you wish to apply to, and waiting for the approval letter from the university.
